“…there was a woman who had had a disabling spirit for 18 years. She was bent over and could not straighten herself. When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your disability.” And he laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and she glorified God.” Luke 13:10-13
How beautiful and encouraging this Jesus sees this woman, and calls her to himself. She could not straighten herself, but one sentence from Jesus, and one touch of his hands, and she is healed. The woman is in the temple – in the house of God – and she has this unexpected encounter with Jesus, Immanuel! What an amazing picture of God’s grace.
Like this woman, we could not straighten our sinful selves. We needed Jesus to see us, to call us, and heal us. He is the one who has freed us from our sins. The crooked are made straight. Praise God!
